For this article I used Festival, YASO optimizer and JSoko for boxes not needed to move to solve the level.
If you’re an experienced player you might have solved Bugatti by yourself. It’s not a novice level but it’s not that difficult.
If not, did you try a solver?
I’m happy to announce you are out of luck 🙂 No solver gets the job done.
You can help the solver.
Bugatti without the bling and blang. I stoned immovable boxes and unused floors:
Make a few moves.. You will soon figure out it’s necessary to make roughly the above moves from the start.
The A basically has to be solved completely from the start. Move 1. Solve the level and as the finishing moves push 2 down and move 1 back to its starting position.
Now you need to push 2 back in place. No way to avoid pushing 3 and no way to avoid pushing 4. You need to solve BUG.
On the way to do that it’s impossible not to push 9. To get 9 back you need to go all the way round the level and you can’t do this without going through TI.
It’s impossible to solve BUG ending with pushing 9 back in place. So you need to solve TI and then go back and finish solving BUG from the inside.
Take notice when you have passed TI from bottom left to top right you can reach TI from both sides. Check that out later.
Festival needs help. It’s easier to solve smaller levels. And you can split Bugatti up in 3 smaller levels. A, BUG and IT.
I used SAYC to make smaller levels from Bugatti. Hopefully Festival can solve these individual puzzles.
Start with A. Festival solves this straight away. 104/42. Same numbers for pushes and moves.
Now continue making a level with only BUG.
Festival can’t solve the above level.
Another trick: Start solving the level with the moves you know is necessary to get to a solution. And let Festival continue from that point.
YASC has a function that let’s you copy a position in a level and create a new level with this position. (As of writing I haven’t learned how that works). So I use the editor to create a level with the semisolved positions. (Actually I use YASCs Capture function to get the semisolved level into the Editor).
Create a level with round about this position. Obs: My suggested moves are not enough to reach the shown layout. You need a few more moves. If Festival doesn’t find a solution you just create a new level with a few more moves and eventually Festival will find a solution. Maybe you will find it first on your own steam 🙂
My best 393/125. Same solution for best pushes or moves.
Now TI. Remember you can solve TI from both sides? I made 2 versions. The left “Oneway”. Start solving from the bottom left and end up top right and never get back. The right “Circle”. Again start solving from bottom left. You need to get to top left. Do it as fast as you can and then you can solve the puzzle attacking it from both sides.
Oneway: Same solution for best moves or pushes: 317/114
Circle: Moves/pushes 280/101. Pushes/moves 355/89.
Now you only need to combine the best versions of A, BUG and TI for moves and pushes.
My best moves/pushes 792/268 and pushes/moves 1002/254.
Not finished yet. How about dead boxes/boxes not needed to move?
JSoko found no dead boxes in A.
JSoko found the central box in B is a dead box.
If you looked for dead boxes it is obvious the box right of the central box in B could be a dead box.
Using JSoko is a big help finding dead boxes but I needed to make a variant of BUG with the right central box stoned. And found Bugatti is solveable with these variations of B:
No. You can’t stone both at the same time.
And no dead boxes in TI.
